Privacy & Data Sovereignty

In NewsTeam we understand the importance of data privacy and, even more so, data sovereignty. Newsrooms, fact-finding teams, and investigative units often work with highly sensitive content that must be stored and governed in line with local rules and regulations.

Different regions impose different data policies — including government access provisions, residency rules, and compliance requirements. NewsTeam is designed to respect these policies while still delivering the performance and collaboration tools editorial teams require.

Every organization can choose from a list of supported storage locations for their raw data and assets. If a required region is not currently available, contact us at hello@newsteam.io and we can provision new storage locations as needed.

As a SaaS platform, certain centralised utilities are needed — for example search and indexing services. To minimise exposure, NewsTeam’s design:

  • Extracts and stores only critical metadata necessary for search, discovery, and cross-team utilities.
  • Keeps the raw, full content exclusively in the region of your choice.
  • Ensures no unnecessary duplication of sensitive data across central systems.

All assets and data linked to an organization are stored together in a single region. This design has two key benefits:

  • Sovereignty: your full content set lives in the geography you have chosen.
  • Portability: if needed, your organization can access its complete “folder” of raw data at any time.

NewsTeam’s approach to privacy and sovereignty combines:

  • Regional storage aligned with compliance needs.
  • Careful separation of metadata (core utilities) and raw content.
  • Clear data ownership boundaries at the organization level.

This ensures your newsroom can innovate with confidence while retaining control over your most sensitive material.
